Hair RestorationEven in the 1990s, constant hair loss at the extreme level had just one solution - surgery. One had to go for elaborate and expensive hair transplants that grafted hair on to your bald sites. At present, though, there is no dearth of options for all those who are distressed with hair loss. The usual remedies for hair loss was massaging the scalp with a good oil, applying herbs that promised hair restoration or simply going for a wig when nothing seemed to work out. To cap it up, there was the advent of the spray that would cover up your bald spot instantly. Well, the last method was perhaps the worst possible of many unscientific and useless methods of hair restoration that many people undertook as a desperate measure. However, those days of desperate measures are over and you have great methods of scientific hair restoration that are medically approved. Propecia and Rogaine At present, there are numerous hair restoration processes available. Even one up on the hair transplant surgery are modern medicines like Propecia (finasteride) or Rogaine (minoxidil). These medicines are better than transplant surgeries that can get painful. Moreover, these remedies can even help you grow natural hair. Thus, it is a wise idea to begin with these medicines. How do these products work? The discovery of Propecia is very interesting because, like many great things, it was discovered accidentally. Some scientists were conducting experiments for male hormone therapy and they were surprised to find that a number of test subjects had gotten rid of their balding problems. Since then, Propecia, which comes in pill form, has been used as a treatment for balding. But since Propecia is obtained from steroid, it is only meant for men. Rogaine works in the same way as Propecia, that is, by reducing shrinkage of follicles. The difference is that Rogaine has to be applied onto the scalp and it can be used by men and women without any fear of side effects. Factors that pre-determine hair loss There are many scientific factors that contribute towards hair loss. Genetically, men are more prone to baldness than women. Balding is also related to aging in men. Males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. It is the mother who contributes the X chromosome. In case the child is a boy, he always gets his X chromosome from his mother and the Y chromosome from his father. The baldness and hair loss genes are present on the X chromosome and in case the mother who has the hair loss genes gives birth to a boy, he'll definitely be bald. The girl, on the other hand, gets a protection from the other X chromosome that she inherits from her father. This is what makes men more prone to baldness. With age, the hair follicles shrink and result in baldness. However, men and women, even, do not need to worry because of the great hair restoration therapies available at present. |
